This is a guest post by my good friends Joel and Lisa Canfield, a very talented couple, originally from Hollywood, but who now live in New Zealand with their two young sons. For more information on Joel and Lisa check out their website www.joinedatthehip.co.nz

Hi, Collette invited us to guest post on her blog space – so here we are. And this is a big coup for Collette – because we don’t even blog for ourselves, even though we’re pro writers.
Why?
Because we’re waaaaay too busy pretending to be other people.
We blog as other people. We write articles as other people. We even write eBooks as other people. We should both be in jail for identity theft.
Except the people we’re posing as are incredibly happy for us to be them. Because they either hate to write, don’t have time to do it, or aren’t very good at it.
But at the same time, they want to keep a regular presence on the internet. And by constantly posting material with their name attached, their website link embedded and lots of relevant keywords to create SEO magic, they build up their image as authorities, giving them heaps of credibility in their business niches.
One company we do a great deal of work for is devoted to building up their clients as internet celebrities as well as experts in their field. They produce podcast interviews and You Tube videos with these clients as well – which is where we really won’t be able to help until they develop the technology that allows us to easily transform our faces and voices (if you’re thinking “hey, wait – they could do that in those Mission: Impossible movies!,” as far as we know, Tom Cruise hasn’t made those hi-tech tools widely available yet).
If you’re thinking all of this stuff doesn’t work – and you could be using a stronger word than “stuff” – well, consider Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the medical correspondent on CNN. We’re sure Sanjay is a perfectly good doctor and knows what he’s talking about on the all-news network, but President Barack Obama wanted to make him America’s Surgeon General. Basically because… the guy was on TV.
Same principal. He talks about medical matters every day on cable television. Hey, he must be the biggest expert in the world!
Because we’re used to writing screenplays and the like, it’s relatively easy for us to capture our clients “voices” and write an article as they would. And since we’re generally working off their ideas and thoughts, what we produce is a fair representation of who they are and what they know. And again, since these are very busy people, it’s a way for them to get their ideas and thoughts professionally composed and posted. It boosts their profile, drives traffic to their websites and helps them in search rankings on Google and the like.
So, if you’re running your own online niche business, blog away and post articles whenever you can – or hire people like us to help you do it. It’s a great way to let the online world know who you are – and where you are!
Hey…maybe we should hire somebody to blog for us….anybody know any good writers?
